Detective Death Calls: Roguelite Mystery Game Now on Steam
Playism has announced that the indie game developer SHIZU KANO UMI's roguelite detective adventure game, Detective Death's Call, is now available on Steam. The game supports Traditional Chinese among other languages.
About the Game
Detective Death's Call blends roguelite elements with card mechanics and logic puzzles to create a unique detective adventure experience. Both the murder cases and the puzzles used to solve them are randomly generated, ensuring that each playthrough offers a different set of challenges and solutions. This variability is a key feature, making the game accessible and enjoyable for repeated playthroughs without the need to memorize complex operations or functions. For those confident in their deductive skills, there are options to speedrun the game or tackle Hard mode for an extra challenge.
Features and Gameplay
Every playthrough begins with the player searching for the culprit in a fresh scenario, making it ideal for streamers and their audiences to interact and play together. The game imposes no restrictions on streaming or recording, allowing players to freely share story elements and spoilers.
The essence of roguelite games is the concept of "death awareness," and Detective Death's Call emphasizes this aspect strongly. Players must learn from multiple deaths, reassess their approach, and make informed decisions based on intuition and insight.
Developer's Insight
Developer SHIZU KANO UMI shared the inspiration behind the game's creation:
"The reason I developed Detective Death's Call, a game with randomly generated cases for deduction, is simple: I am a devoted fan of roguelite and detective genres. In traditional detective works, once you know the solution, the second playthrough shifts from solving the mystery to spotting foreshadowing. This changes the nature of the experience.
The more impactful the trick, the more memorable it becomes. I wanted to provide players with the thrill of random deduction. Incidentally, I never try to predict the culprit in detective novels or movies. While predicting the culprit can be fun, it doesn't equate to enjoying the work itself. This game, made by someone who doesn't engage in deduction, is my way of sharing that enjoyment. I hope it will be supported by everyone."
With its innovative blend of gameplay mechanics and a fresh approach to the detective genre, Detective Death's Call promises a captivating experience for players and streamers alike. Dive into the mystery and see if you have what it takes to solve the ever-changing cases.
