Honkai: Star rail: Japan's Top-Grossing Mobile Game, with Most Female Players in the U.S.
Since 2023, miHoYo's "Honkai: Stellar Rails" has been a hit on mobile, PC, and PS5 platforms, receiving widespread praise and achieving impressive success. Now, Sensor Tower, a Japanese market research firm, has released data on the game's performance, particularly in Japan (data available for iOS/Android only).
From April 27, 2023, to April 26, 2024, "Honkai: Stellar Rails" earned over 40% of its global revenue from China, followed by Japan at 21.7%, the United States at 13.0%, and Korea at 7.1%.
In Japan, the game has consistently ranked in the top 50 for mobile revenue on both the App Store and Google Play for over 350 days since its release. It also spent over 150 days in the Top 10 on the App Store and over 190 days on Google Play, indicating stable revenue streams.
Compared to other games, "Honkai: Stellar Rails" had 2.5 times higher revenue growth in Japan from April 27, 2023, to April 26, 2024.
In terms of player demographics, the United States has the highest proportion of female players at 42.3%, while Korea has the highest proportion of male players at 71.4%. In Japan, male players make up 67.2% of the player base.
Players in the United States and Korea are mostly aged between 18 and 24, while in Japan, the 25-34 age group dominates, with a significant number of players aged 55 and above.
Japan's Revenue Per Download (RPD) exceeds that of China, with upward trends observed compared to the United States and Korea, indicating strong player support in Japan.
