Larian Studios Expands for 'Baldur's Gate 3', Sets Up Seventh Studio in Warsaw, Poland for Two New Projects
The RPG "Baldur's Gate 3," developed by Larian Studios, has been highly successful since its official release in August 2023, winning numerous gaming awards up to 2024. Recently, Larian announced the establishment of its 7th studio in Warsaw, Poland, to assist in developing two new ambitious games.
Founded in 1996, Larian Studios has grown to include around 300 people across six studios worldwide. Despite being headquartered in Belgium, they have studios in Canada, Ireland, Malaysia, the UK, and Spain, with the new Warsaw studio being the latest addition.
Despite the scattered locations, Larian Studios doesn't divide teams by projects but rather collaborates on large-scale game development. The choice of Warsaw may not be coincidental, as the city hosts other renowned game developers like CD Projekt Red, known for "Cyberpunk 2077" and "The Witcher" series.
Following the success of "Baldur's Gate 3," Larian continues to grow while other companies undergo layoffs. CEO Swen Vincke has criticized layoffs as short-sighted, stating, "I'm hiring them to work for us."
While it's unclear if those laid off joined Larian's new studio, it's clear the team is confident in their new projects. They've teased two new games in development, with Swen Vincke expressing great satisfaction with their progress, though formal details may take some time to emerge.
