How to Unlock and Enter the Pit in Diablo 4 (D4)
The Pit is an endgame dungeon in Diablo 4 (D4). Check out our guide to learn how to unlock and prepare for The Pit, including information on its rewards, how to enter, and much more.
What is The Pit?
The Pit is the Artificer's Timed Dungeon where you must fill up a bar by slaying enemies in under 10 minutes to open a portal leading to a random dungeon boss. Defeating these bosses can drop the materials used for Masterworks.
Dying inside this dungeon incurs a death penalty, reducing the remaining time based on the dungeon's tier level.
How to Unlock The Pit
Use the Portal Activator in Cerrigar
To enter The Pit, you'll have to use the Portal Activator that can be located in Cerrigar. The waypoint for the town will be unlocked by default so teleport to the town to access the Portal Activator. However, to do so, you must complete a number of other prerequisites to use the said portal.
Reach World Tier 4
One of the other requirements of activating the portal is to reach World Tier 4. This is one of the first requirements if you wish to activate the said portal.
Complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon
Aside from reaching World Tier 4, you'll also have to complete a Tier 46 Nightmare Dungeon which is the harder part of the requirements. It does not matter which Nightmare Dungeon you choose as long as you're able to complete it as a Tier 46 or higher variant of the said dungeon.
How to Enter The Pit
Use Runeshards On the Obelisk
To enter The Pit, activate the Artificer's Obelisk found in Cerrigar and use the token called the Runeshard, which can be obtained by completing Whisper Bounties and Nightmare Dungeons, or participating in Helltides or Legion Events.
The Pit Rewards
Masterworks Upgrade Materials
These rewards are the materials you need to upgrade your equipment with Masterworks at the Blacksmith. The required material will depend on the current rank of the equipment.
Material Cache Transmutation
You can also transmute the materials you obtain by talking to the Alchemist. Here, you'll be able to exchange them for a cache that contains a lower grade of the materials you use.
