How to Initiate the Reign of Pain Side Quest

To start the Reign of Pain side quest, players must first complete the What Ails You and Uninvited Guest side quests. Once accomplished, they should visit Haven and speak with Fanet, who reveals that lifting Talor's curse requires slaying the Tonberry King Notorious Mark. However, before the conversation concludes, news arrives of an army of Tonberries gathering on The Cloak. Players must venture through the nearby gate and defeat the Tonberries massing there.

Locating and Defeating the Tonberry King (Notched Tang Location)

To find the Tonberry King, players must journey to The Path of Corruption, east of the Conviction map marker. While encountering regular Tonberries along the way, riding Clive's Chocobo Ambrosia enables players to bypass most of them. Eventually, they'll encounter the Tonberry King, a formidable adversary. However, by utilizing Leviathan's Serpent's Cry ability and employing evasion tactics with R1, the fight becomes manageable. Players must time their ability refills effectively and avoid distraction from smaller Tonberries. By staying mobile and using Eikonic Abilities when the Tonberry King is vulnerable, players can emerge victorious with relative ease.

Rewards from Reign of Pain

Upon vanquishing the Tonberry King, players obtain the Notched Tang item necessary for crafting powerful end-game equipment like the Tonberry Blade. Completing the quest and returning to the village also yields experience points and a piece of Orichalcum, another rare crafting material used for forging some of Final Fantasy 16's finest weapons and armor.
