Genshin Impact 4.2: Strategy Guide for Defeating the Abyss Herald in the New Weekly Domain "Whale of Star Swallowing"
【原神】Version 4.2 New Weekly Boss Star Swallower Guide
The new weekly boss in Genshin Impact version 4.2, Star Swallower, is divided into two phases: the Whale with Hostile Intent and the Black Phantom inside the Whale's Belly. It is recommended to avoid using teams with purely Electro or Hydro characters and instead bring characters like Eula who can deal massive damage with their Elemental Burst.
Phase 1: Whale with Hostile Intent
During this phase, the Whale will accumulate Hostile Intent from the invaders. When the Hostile Intent reaches its maximum value, the Whale will devour players and enter phase 2.
Mechanics of Hostile Intent:
- The maximum limit of Hostile Intent is 120 points, and it can be accumulated in the following ways:
1. Naturally, it increases by 1 point per second.
2. When attacking the Whale, the damage dealt will accumulate a percentage of the corresponding HP damage as Hostile Intent. For example, if a character's attack deals 10% of the Whale's HP, the Hostile Intent will increase by 10.
3. Destroying Vortices will increase the Hostile Intent by 30.
During phase 1, when the Whale's Hostile Intent reaches a certain level or after the Whale recovers from phase 3 after 40 seconds, the Whale will emerge from the side and swallow players, entering phase 2.
Inside the Whale's Belly, the Black Phantom will continuously attack players with an Electro greatsword.
To unlock an achievement, you need to be swallowed twice during the battle.
Phase 2: Black Phantom inside the Whale's Belly
The health bar of the Phantom appears as a white shield beneath the Whale's health bar, representing approximately 60% of the Whale's HP. This shield is not in the traditional sense.
The Black Phantom will continue attacking players during this phase. Every 16 seconds, it will unleash Whirl Shadow Black Rain and summon several shadow-like creatures for a one-time attack.
Using Eula's Elemental Burst or an explosive attack can interrupt the Black Phantom's charge, and it will also inflict an additional 25% damage to the Phantom.
Defeating the Phantom allows you to escape the space and deal 20% of the Whale's HP as backlash damage. This will stun the Whale.
Due to this mechanic, the Whale will not swallow players again and will enter a prolonged phase 3 when its HP drops below 20%.
When the Black Phantom is encountered for the second time, it will only have 50% HP left, which corresponds to 30% of the Whale's total HP. Therefore, the difficulty will be lower compared to the initial encounter.
Interestingly, if the Whale's HP drops below 20% for the first time while it is swallowing a player, it will lose an additional 1% of its HP when exiting the Whale's Belly.
Tips for the Star Swallower Battle:
1. Avoid using teams composed solely of Electro or Hydro characters. The Whale's high water resistance and the Phantom's high Electro resistance make them ineffective for dealing damage.
2. Avoid moving around the battlefield while the Whale is attacking. The Whale covers a large area, making it difficult to maintain buffs. It is recommended to deal damage when the Whale is stunned.
3. Bring characters like Eula who can deal massive damage with Elemental Bursts. Eula's Elemental Burst deals Cryo damage, and the Star Conqueror buff's attribute attack can cause significant damage to the Black Phantom.
4. Don't be fooled by the water on the Whale's body. It has high water resistance but does not have the Hydro element.
These are the main strategies for the Star Swallower boss fight. Stay tuned for more guides and updates on the official Genshin Impact website.
