The Royal Rumble is one of the staple events in the WWE, and it returns in WWE 2K23. The match is among the most chaotic in the game and is a lot of fun with multiple players. Thankfully, there isn't a trophy/achievement associated with winning the Royal Rumble as the first or second entrant in the match like its predecessor. To win, players must throw their opponents over the top rope.
Now players can enjoy the match and switch wrestlers if they are eliminated. However, some MyFaction challenges in WWE 2K23 require the player's selected character to win and can lead to frustration. It's still easy to get eliminated in a Royal Rumble match, but by applying the following tips, players will have a better chance of winning as their favorite WWE superstar.
Picking The Right Wrestler
Players will have the most success in the Royal Rumble by using wrestlers who have good recovery and reversal stats in WWE 2K23. Wrestlers with the highest ratings in the game include Roman Reigns, John Cena, and Brock Lesnar.
In addition to highly rated wrestlers in WWE 2K23, players may want to opt for a super heavyweight like Andre The Giant or Vader. This prevents smaller wrestlers from throwing the player's character all over the ring with Weight Detection switched on.
Ways To Eliminate Opponents In The Royal Rumble
There are multiple ways to eliminate wrestlers in a Royal Rumble match. Unfortunately, that also means the player's character can be thrown out of the ring. Use the following methods to get opponents over the top rope in the most efficient way possible.
Eliminating The Fast Way
1. The easiest way to eliminate opponents is to clothesline them over the top rope. With the opponent's back near the ropes, press L2 and the Square/X or X/A to clothesline them over the top and avoid the mini-game.
2. Grab a wrestler with the Circle/B button. Then long press Circle/B and the L-stick in the desired direction. The wrestler will likely end up on the apron on the other side of the ropes. To eliminate them in this state, press the X/A button, or to perform a running attack, press L2/LT and X/A to knock them outside.
3. Irish Whip the opponent into the corner and grab the opponent the Circle/B button to begin the mini-game.
Carry Eliminations
Grab the opponent with the Circle/B button, then press the R1/RB button to carry the opponent toward the ropes. Press the Circle/B button when prompted and complete the submission-style mini-game to eliminate them.
Finisher Eliminations
The most efficient way to get an elimination in the Royal Rumble is to use a finisher. However, be wary of getting reversed and thrown out by the opponent. Ensure they are stunned, grab the opponent with the Circle/B, then drag the wrestler to the ropes with L1/LB to lean them. Then hit with finisher with R2/RT and X/A.
Players should also pick their targets wisely, try and go for the weaker wrestlers, maintain their distance, and let the AI beat each other up. Moreover, use the fast recovery mechanic by pressing the R1/RB to get up as quickly as possible with the blue momentum bar.
