Simple Resident Evil 4 Trick Skips the Sun Or Moon Puzzle

Like pretty much the rest of the entries in the series, the Resident Evil 4 remake offers up a series of puzzles to break up the action, but anyone who wants to skip the Sun/Moon one can do so with a simple non-grenade trick. Out of all the popular franchises that Capcom has released over the decades, the RE name is one of the most recognizable and successful. Starting life in 1996, the original was a major player in setting the scene for the survival horror genre.

The series is notable for giving players a slew of head scratchers to test their puzzle-solving abilities. Even the Resident Evil 4 remake can be tricky at times, especially for beginners. As such, fans have been discovering neat ways to bypass some sections of the most recent game, and some of these tricks are a lot easier to pull off than one would expect.

In a recent post on Reddit, user LordMimicry posted a brief clip from their playthrough of the Resident Evil 4 remake. The footage takes place during Chapter 8, when Leon must throw switches in order to bypass a series of gates in what's known as the Sun/Moon puzzle. However, a simple trick allows them to make light work of this part. The player stands in a specific spot right by the closed portcullis gate, where the tiniest bit of the counterweight that raises it can be seen. With a few choice shots, Leon is able to hit the counterweight and open the gate, thus saving a lot of time.

It's interesting to note that this skip has been used by others, but via the use of a grenade. What LordMimicry shows is that it's possible to pull it off with a gun as well. Now that the game has been out for a few weeks, several tricks have been found in Resident Evil 4, some of which are useful for those who don't want to bother with certain puzzles, while others can be utilized to skip entire boss fights. It remains to be seen whether Capcom will eventually patch out some of these exploits.

Given that the sales of Resident Evil 4 are looking good, with the game currently the second fastest-selling entry in the series, there seems to be no stopping Capcom's legendary IP. No doubt more tricks and tips will be unearthed as the weeks and months go by, which is going to be especially good news for the speedrunning community.
